Application for research funding

Research funding is applied for using the funding application form. The form must be accompanied by a separate research plan of no more than 10 pages and CVs from the principal investigator and other key members of the project. The research plan can be submitted in Finnish, Swedish, or English. The funding application is submitted as a PDF file and other documents (the research plan, CVs and other attachments) are submitted as a separate single PDF file, by e-mail to Kela's registry. Incomplete or late applications will not be processed.

  • Fill in the application form
    • If conducting the research requires a decision by the executive team, manager or someone else in a position of authority in the organisation carrying out the research, information about the decision should be documented in section 12 of the form.
    • If the research requires an ethics statement, information about the statement should be entered in section 14 of the form and the statement should be appended to the application. If no ethics statement is available, reasons for this must be provided in section 14. Research projects must comply with the guidelines issued by Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity. Adherence to relevant ethical standards is required.
    • If the research requires a permission to use register or other data, and the necessary permissions have been obtained (section 15 of the form), they must be appended to the application. If register data available from Kela are to be used in the research, the research team must have permission from Kela to retrieve and use such data. 
  • The application must be accompanied by a separate research plan of up to 10 pages and a curriculum vitae for key project personnel. The research plan must be in Finnish, Swedish or English. The application for funding and the other documents enclosed with the application (research plan, CVs, etc.) must be sent as a single PDF file and emailed to Kela’s Registry. Incomplete or delayed applications will not be considered.

It is possible to apply for funding even if not all of the required permits and statements have been acquired, but they must be submitted before the agreement on funding can be signed.

Research projects must comply with the guidelines issued by Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (tenk.fi). Adherence to relevant ethical standards is required.
