The main focus of my research at Kela is unemployment benefits. In my previous research, I have examined such topics as careers, workplace conditions and sickness absences. I have also contributed to a project based on register data that looked at job strain and quality of care in healthcare.

Expenditure on unemployment benefits grew in 2024 – highest number of recipients in Eastern Finland

The total expenditure on unemployment benefits amounted to EUR 4 billion in 2024, which translates into an increase of 5% compared to 2023. The expenditure on earnings-related benefits grew by a significant margin while the expenditure on basic unemployment benefits decreased. These data are disclosed in Kela’s new unemployment benefit statistics.
