Presentation

My research areas focus on rehabilitation and disability benefits, particularly from the point of view of the use of benefits and services among adolescents. I am a leading researcher on e.g. The Adolescents Project, which examines the impact of legislative changes in the vocational rehabilitation of young people, monitors the development in the use of benefits, and examines what happens to young people referred to Kela’s vocational rehabilitation and special services after receiving benefits and services. The project includes a collaborative study with the City of Espoo and the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), where benefit and service paths as well as factors contributing to or shielding against marginalisation are studied from early childhood by combining data on entire age cohorts. In my research work, I use various data and methods with an emphasis on register-based research. I investigate the factors affecting health and, more broadly, wellbeing from a life-cycle epidemiological point of view.
