National Health Index 2024: Regional differences in work disability have increased – differences in morbidity have remained unchanged

The National Health Index describes regional differences in morbidity and work disability among the Finnish population. Regional differences can also be examined separately for men and women. The Morbidity Index was highest in 2024 in North Savonia and North Ostrobothnia. North Karelia and Lapland were also areas with high morbidity. The largest regional differences were observed in alcohol-related morbidity and severe mental health disorders.
The Work Disability Index was highest in Kainuu and North Savonia. Disability pensions and sickness allowances were mostly paid in Kainuu. Vocational rehabilitation was most received in North Karelia. Regional differences were greater in decisions granting vocational rehabilitation than in disability pensions and sickness allowances.
