Medicines in 2019
Published 1.12.2020
Summary
Both the sales of pharmaceuticals and reimbursements for medicine costs continued increasing in 2019. The sales of prescription medicines used in the outpatient setting grew faster than the sales of over-the-counter medicines, but the clearly strongest growth was seen in the sales of medicines
to hospitals and other institutions at wholesale prices. For the first time, the reimbursements paid for medicine costs exceeded EUR 1.5 billion. The amount of additional refunds paid to clients due to large medicine costs increased by nearly one fifth from the preceding year.
